my friend (an adult) raved about this book to me. they have it at my library. i think i’ll bump it up on my reading list.

Yikes – that’s too bad! Was it a situation where the computer records those scores and they wouldn’t have a way to delete them or something? Either way, that’s too bad! Ours were always encouraged to read books ‘in the zone’, and had to read a certain number that were within their STAR range, but they were also allowed to veer into easier or harder territory if they wanted to. It was all about the points, and if they were one point away from their goal they could read an easy book to get there no matter what their grade level.

I’m sorry their system was so inflexible! My experience with those STAR tests was not the best. In math, my kids might test at 12th grade level one time and 3rd grade the next.

Hurray for both of you, and your son! I’m glad he found out the love of reading. It’s going to be his lifelong friend. Reading opens doors to the new world.. new skill, new language.
